The Peter Pan Nursery makes fundraising appeal to London Marathon and Manchester 10K Runners within North Staffordshire.
The Peter Pan Nursery for children with special needs is asking all those entered in the Virgin London Marathon and/or the Manchester 10k Run as “own place runners”, to consider using their place towards raising vital funds needed for the Nursery.
The Peter Pan Nursery based in Wolstanton, North Staffordshire, provides professional support and care to children from birth to five years old who have a wide range of disabilities, conditions and syndromes, such as Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Visual and Hearing Impairments, Physical delays and Speech and Language delays. The Nursery also provides valuable help and support to all parents and carers of children with special needs.
The primary goal of the Nursery is to ensure that excellent standard of care is provided for every child. The Nursery also aims to enhance the development and education of children in a secure, safe and stimulating environment. The Nursery is unique within North Staffordshire and currently needs to raise £250,000 a year to continue to provide its outstanding service.
Fundraising Manager, Sophia Baker, said, ‘The Nursery is open daily from Monday through to Friday and we currently have a waiting list so the need for our service is growing. As we are unique within the area and dependant upon community support to exist, we can not begin to tackle this without the support of individuals and businesses. Choosing to support the Peter Pan Nursery by running at either the London Marathon or Manchester 10k Run, is a superb way to raise vital funds for the nursery, as well as raising our profile within the local area and completing a fantastic personal challenge.’

The Peter Pan Nursery announces appointment of Head of Fundraising.
The Peter Pan Nursery for Children with Special Needs, has appointed a Head of Fundraising, Sophia Baker, in a commitment to grow the charities income and support the needs of the nursery.
Sophia’s priority will be to develop a new fundraising strategy which will be achieved by focusing on developing corporate partnerships, recruiting regular donors and volunteers and implementing activities over the forthcoming year. With this greater income, The Peter Pan Nursery for Children with Special Needs hopes to grow its service as well as replace funding that has been awarded via the Big Lottery. This would allow the nursery to offer more places to children on its waiting list as well as additional sessions to children currently attending the nursery.
Sophia Baker has several years of fundraising experience and previously worked for the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent, in the fundraising team.
On the appointment, Nursery Manager Lynn Heighway said, ‘In order to meet the considerable demand for the service we provide, it is essential that we increase our income stream over the next year and onwards. We are delighted that Sophia has joined the nursery as our Head of Fundraising and that her extensive experience will help us achieve this ambition for the nursery.’
Sophia Baker said, ‘I look forward to creating and implementing a successful fundraising strategy as it currently costs around £250,000 a year to run the nursery and we are almost exclusively funded by donations. In addition to this the demand for our service is growing. I feel proud to be working for such a worthwhile cause and can’t wait to make a difference.’
